Emergency rooms provide medical care at the highest possible cost. Without access to healthcare, patients must seek care in emergency rooms when it ought to be provided more cost effectively elsewhere. Or they don't get care at all until their condition worsens dramatically. In either case, the cost of medical care rises along with insurance premiums.
Florida should accept the Affordable Care Act expansion of Medicaid to low-income working families. It makes sense economically and it's the right thing to do for people who, through no fault of their own, don't have health insurance.
