Last night, Congressman Robert C. "Bobby" Scott was presented with the 2012 Distinguished Community Health Defender Award by the Capital Area Health Network (CAHN) at their annual Board of Directors meeting. Congressman Scott received the award in appreciation of his consistent efforts to protect and promote Health Centers nationwide and ensure continued access to cost-effective, comprehensive and affordable primary and preventive care for millions of Americans.
"I am honored to receive the Distinguished Community Health Defender Award from the Capital Area Health Network," said Rep. Scott. "CAHN has been committed to providing superior health care services to the Richmond area community. Recognizing that too many Americans went without insurance and those with insurance were losing it or facing bankruptcy due to excessive co-pays and deductibles, I was proud to support passage of the Affordable Care Act in 2010. The Affordable Care Act will ensure health care providers like CAHN that provide health care services to underserved populations will have the necessary resources to enhance and expand. CAHN has already received hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants as a direct result of the Affordable Care Act. I remain committed to protecting the gains we made with the Affordable Care Act and will continue to strongly advocate for its full implementation."
