More Accountability, Not Money, Needed in Elections

Press Release

Location: Big Sandy, MT

Montana farmer Jon Tester today released the following statement in response to news that a federal judge struck down a Montana law limiting campaign contributions to state candidates.

"The contribution limits on Montana's political campaigns have worked well for decades, ensuring that our democracy is controlled only by people and their ideas. This decision, like Citizens United, moves us in the wrong direction. We don't need more money in politics; we need more accountability."

Tester is an outspoken critic of the U.S. Supreme Court's unpopular Citizens United decision, a ruling that struck down Montana's 100-year old Corrupt Practices Act banning corporations from spending on Montana candidates.
