At a press conference today in Johnstown, Congressman Mark Critz today received the endorsement of the Alliance for Retired Americans in the campaign for the 12th Congressional District. Jean Friday, President of the Alliance's Pennsylvania Chapter, applauded Critz for his commitment to protecting Social Security and Medicare
"Mark Critz promised that he would fight to protect Social Security and Medicare when he first ran for Congress and he has kept his word," Friday said. "His 100 percent record on seniors' issues, and his willingness to stand up to those who want to privatize Social Security and turn Medicare into a voucher program makes him the clear choice for the people of Western Pennsylvania."
The Alliance for Retired Americans awarded Critz the "Social Security and Medicare Hero" award for his solid record of standing up for senior citizens. Critz opposes privatization of Social Security and opposed the Republican budget that would end Medicare as we know it by turning it into a voucher program and cost seniors an additional $6,400 per year for their health care.
"The Alliance for the Retired Americans is a leading organization in the fight to protect Social Security and Medicare and I welcome their support," Critz said. "When the Republicans in Congress tried to turn Medicare into a voucher program, I said no because it is wrong to force seniors to pay an additional $6,400 per year to pay for more tax cuts for millionaires."
"We need to stand up to those who want to dismantle these vital programs for seniors and that is exactly what I am doing in Congress."
