Our top priority should be to restore funds to critical programs such as KidsCare. This smart investment will save us all money by keeping our children healthy by allowing them to seek lower cost options rather than using state-funded emergency rooms for care. Additionally, our economy is injured by the loss of productivity when parents must miss work to care for a sick child.
Just as big government must stay out of personal health care decisions, employers also should not get between patients and their doctors. I support laws requiring insurance coverage for contraception, which is crucial to protecting and promoting women's health. Women's access to birth control must be ensured. Importantly, this access reduces the rate of abortions, which should be legal, safe and rare. I will stand against any attempts to limit women's access to contraception.
