9-Term Congressman Tom Latham Once Again Votes to Adjourn and Campaign Rather than Protect Iowa Jobs

Today, Leonard Boswell blasted 9-term Congressman Tom Latham and the right wing Republican leadership for once again voting to adjourn and campaign rather than deal with the critical issues facing Iowa and our country.

"Its unbelievable to me that Congressman Latham places more importance on his getting re-elected than he does helping Iowa's farmers deal with this drought," said Boswell. "And given the layoffs by Siemens this week, and Wind Clipper last month, the need to extend the Wind Energy Tax Credit to save Iowa jobs is pretty obvious."

This latest vote to adjourn comes on the heels of Congressman Latham's sole vote among the Iowa delegation to adjourn in August and campaign rather than deal with the Farm Bill. Hypocritically, Latham attended the Farm Bill Now rally a week ago today and after going back and forth, publicly declared that he would sign the discharge petition to bring the Farm Bill to a vote.

"Congressman Latham must be awfully worried about his campaign if he feels the need to disregard Iowa farmers, let more situations like what happened with Siemens and Wind Clipper take place, and turn back the clock on women's rights," said Boswell. "I call on Congressman Latham to quit making excuses for his buddy John Boehner and use his 'influence with the Speaker' to get some movement on these critical issues."
