Senator John Kerry today released a statement on current contract negotiations for members of SEIU Local 615.
"It feels like yesterday that I was standing beside Senator Kennedy when janitors were fighting for good jobs. Today, I stand with them as they struggle to expand access to employer paid healthcare and fight for the opportunity to do more full-time work. Janitors are the key to keeping our buildings across Massachusetts up and running, and they deserve both a sense of security and dignity as American workers. We've seen the endless energy and commitment Massachusetts' janitors have put into bargaining for salary increases and health insurance on behalf of those working part-time. Every one of the 14,000 janitors of the Commonwealth should be commended for their efforts to find a concrete path forward. As the expiration of the current contract looms, it is in everyone's interest -- janitors of SEIU Local 615, building owners, and cleaning contractors -- to negotiate in good faith and come to a fair resolution for all involved."
