Today, Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) issued the following statement in response to a report in today's New York Times about the Federal Trade Commission's move to overhaul web privacy rules to protect children:

This new rule is an overdue step to help protect children against data miners and trackers that invade their privacy and imperil their safety. It should help parents safeguard their children by providing new tools for oversight, including parental permission for collecting and storing photos and email addresses -- practices rapidly becoming more rampant. The FTC administrative step should spur and strengthen legislative measures such as Do Not Track proposals, which I have advocated.
