Begich Recommends JPARC to Army for Live Training

Urging the U.S. Army to place additional equipment in Alaska to support live training of Army units and regional allies all the way through the Brigade level, U.S. Senator Mark Begich recently wrote to Army Chief of Staff General Ray Odierno and Secretary of the Army John McHugh to recommend the Joint Pacific Alaska Range Complex (JPARC) for its unparalleled training environment.

JPARC consists of all land, air, and sea training areas used by the Army, Navy, and Air Force in Alaska to support joint exercises and mission rehearsals.

Begich writes in the letter, "This complex, coupled with the available Naval training space, provides great capacity for training the joint force. This is especially important as we refocus our efforts on the Pacific. I understand you are currently evaluating the feasibility of allocating your Exportable Training Capability Instrumentation System (ETC IS) to a command. I urge you to consider allocating this system to the United States Army, Pacific, so it may be placed in Alaska. Alaska provides homeland soil and forward presence in the Asia-Pacific region. Our regional allies find reassurance with Alaska's military presence as well as logistical convenience for multilateral training and exercises. JPARC provides an ideal venue to utilize the ETC IS to support home station training for the soldiers in Alaska, as well as Theater Engagement-related training missions for the entire Pacific."

In the letter Begich also highlights infrastructure at Eielson Air Force Base which can support and process large numbers of military personnel for deployments and training.
