Issue Position: Energy and

Issue Position

America's dependence on foreign oil distorts our foreign policy and forces us to do business with some of the world's worst regimes.

We must do better. An America with abundant energy will make the whole world more secure while it creates good jobs here at home.

To build a sustainable, responsible energy policy, we need to start with these priorities:

1. Promote energy independence with an "all of the above" strategy. Wind, solar, gas, oil, and hydroelectric energy must all be taken into account and developed here in America.

2. Reduce oil prices by increasing domestic production. This means drilling here, transporting here, and refining here -- all of which provide good jobs and lower oil prices for American families.

3. Approve projects like the Keystone XL pipeline. The Keystone Pipeline is a prime example of lost potential that could easily represent more jobs and greater energy supply.

4. Use more domestic natural gas. Increasing our use of domestic natural gas resources reduces our reliance upon unpredictable foreign sources.

5. Upgrade our refineries and increase their capacity. We're on the cusp of a new generation of American energy production, and our infrastructure needs to reflect that.

We need to help our economy by putting American ingenuity to work. There are thousands of good blue collar jobs just waiting to be created by responsibly increasing the use of our abundant natural resources here in America.

Maria Cantwell's opposition to the Keystone Pipeline and domestic oil production help to explain why the price of gasoline has doubled since she took office.

Cantwell can't create a sustainable, responsible energy policy. Together, you and I will.
