Senator Michael Baumgartner toured two local energy companies in Seattle yesterday, Seattle Steam and Puget Sound Solar, to discuss energy production policy in the Northwest.
"We've got to keep looking at the big picture when we talk about the future of energy production," Baumgartner said. "We've got to keep pushing for smarter solutions to create greater energy security."
"Puget Sound Solar and Seattle Steam are well-established companies that provide energy alternatives to thousands of customers. America needs to develop more green energy solutions that serve more of the population at large."
"Our nation's energy policy is crucial to driving economic growth, but we cannot let it drive our foreign policy. Our need for foreign oil forces us to do business with some of the world's worst regimes, and that puts us at risk."
"Green energy needs to be part of a comprehensive strategy for energy independence that also includes increasing domestic production of oil and natural gas."
"By approving projects like the Keystone Pipeline, by upgrading and expanding our own refineries, and utilizing the natural sources of green energy here at home we can build an energy policy that will make us less dependent on unpredictable foreign sources."
