Griffin: CR Keeps Government Running and Saves Billions, But Only a Band Aid Because Neither President nor Senate is Serious About Reform

Congressman Tim Griffin (AR-02) issued the following statement after supporting House passage of the Continuing Appropriations Resolution (CR -- H.J.Res. 117):

"This legislation saves hardworking American taxpayers more than $26 billion compared to last year. That's not enough, but it's the best path forward with a Democratically-controlled White House and Senate. I'm hopeful that next year will bring the possibility of real, bold reform, before it's too late."

H.J.Res. 117 would extend discretionary funding for six months. According to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), it would provide $1.047 trillion in funding on an annualized basis. Including $99.9 billion in funding for Overseas Contingency Operations/Global War on Terrorism and $6.4 billion for disaster relief, total spending in the bill is $26.7 billion below total FY 2012 spending levels, according to the CBO.
