Crawford Signs Farm Bill Discharge Petition

Press Release

Today, Congressman Rick Crawford joined a bipartisan group of House members in signing a discharge petition to force a House vote on the Farm Bill. If 218 House members sign the discharge petition, House leaders would be forced to allow a vote on the Farm Bill that passed the House Agriculture Committee on a bipartisan 35-11 vote.

"In an effort to urge leaders to vote on a five year Farm Bill, today I joined a bipartisan group of House members in signing a discharge petition that will push the Farm Bill toward a final vote. The House Farm Bill, which was passed by Democrats and Republicans on a 35-11 vote, shows how both parties can work on critical legislation in a bipartisan fashion. In the coming days I will be talking to my colleagues in the House about signing the discharge petition so we can put farm families ahead of partisan politics and strengthen our rural economy."

After talking to hundreds of farmers during August, Crawford believes a strong Farm Bill is essential to growing Arkansas's rural economy.

"In August I traveled throughout the First District listening to the challenges farm families are facing. Passing a five year Farm Bill that protects Arkansas producers is my top priority," Crawford said. "Arkansas producers deserve the certainty and security that comes with a long term bill. We cannot let election year politics get in the way of passing sound agriculture policy."
