U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) joined together with a bipartisan group of 74 Senators in sending a letter urging the European Union (EU) to designate Hezbollah as a terrorist organization.
"With terrorist attacks on the rise and the growing potential of a nuclear armed Iran, Western interests across the world are increasingly threatened by Iranian sponsored terrorist groups, including Hezbollah. I hope the European Union agrees that it is time to designate Hezbollah as a terrorist organization so that tougher sanctions may be imposed to curb attacks and send a clear sign to the world that terrorist activities will not be tolerated."
The letter was sent to Baroness Catherine Ashton, vice president of the European Commission and High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
