Congressman Kevin McCarthy today hailed the signing of AB 2243, the Space Flight Liability and Immunity Act, which will help ensure the continued development of the commercial spaceflight industry in California:
"This is a historic day for California. AB 2243 is an important piece of legislation for our state and it helps secure our future as a leader in aerospace. Not only will the signing of this bill help keep innovative commercial space companies from leaving California, it will also ensure high-end jobs in a burgeoning industry with incredible potential for growth right here in East Kern and the Antelope Valley.
"In working with our local aerospace leaders to ensure Sacramento understood the potential of this industry, I applaud California state representatives working under Assemblyman Steve Knight's leadership and Governor Brown for supporting this bill and recognizing the importance of keeping California on the leading edge of space. Today's bill signing, coupled with Federal legislative language I fought for earlier this year ensuring the FAA works cooperatively with the commercial space industry, will help ensure that this promising industry has the ability to advance here in California."
