Blackburn Statement on House Passage of the National Security and Job Protection Act

Statement

Date: Sept. 13, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Marsha Blackburn (TN-7) today issued the following statement on House passage of H.R. 6365, the National Security and Job Protection Act.

"This legislation would repeal sequestration and prevent devastating cuts to our nation's military that will endanger the lives and livelihoods of the brave men and women serving in the Armed Forces. If something is not done to stop sequestration from going forward, the effects on our military and the economies of surrounding communities could be catastrophic. In Tennessee alone, the cuts caused by sequestration could lead to the loss of more than 11,000 jobs and cost our state over $600 million in lost revenues.

"The National Security and Job Protection Act sets a deadline for President Obama to offer alternative solutions to replace sequestration and avoid sending America on a dangerous path that could take us over the fiscal cliff. The time to act is now. We're waiting Mr. President."
