Representative James Lankford (R-OK) issued the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released a relatively stagnate August unemployment rate of 8.1 percent.
"Today's jobs numbers illustrate another disappointing month of ineffective leadership by President Obama," said Representative Lankford. "Our national jobless percentage has waffled between 8.1 and 8.3 throughout 2012. While the President says that things are moving in a positive direction, the numbers tell a different story. The economy has produced fewer jobs in 2012, than in 2011. The only consistent statistic for the past 43 months has been an unemployment rate above 8 percent. While 96,000 people were able to find some kind of employment last month, 368,000 people also dropped out of the work force in August.
"While June and July's unemployment numbers were heralded by Democrats as an improvement, BLS has now revised the number of new jobs downward in June from 64,000 to 45,000 and adjusted the numbers for July from 163,000 to 141,000. The President's promises have failed to result in actual employment for millions of American families and recent college graduates," concluded Representative Lankford.
