The U.S. economy created just 96,000 of jobs in the month of August according to a report, released today, by the Labor Department. The unemployment rate remained above eight percent, marking the 43rd consecutive month of unemployment at or above eight percent. Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) issued the following statement on the August jobs number report:
"Today's unemployment report, coupled with last week's disappointing gross domestic product (GDP) economic report, underscores the failed "tax and spend' policies of President Obama, which have caused the slowest path to recovery in 70 years. The 96,000 new jobs created this month is a far outcome from the 150,000 new jobs that need to be created each month in order to keep pace with the population growth.
The Obama economy continues to fail the 370,000 Americans who have left the workforce and the 12.5 million people who remain unemployed. We must continue to work towards commonsense, pro-growth policies that rein in the massive federal spending and lower taxes to fuel job growth and strengthen our economy," Latta stated.
