Representative Ann Marie Buerkle (NY-25) released the following statement in reaction to the August jobs report from the U.S. Department of Labor. The unemployment rate remained above eight percent for the forty-third straight month after just 96,000 jobs were created in the month of August.
"In his speech at the Democrat National Convention last night President Obama said that he has "never been more hopeful about America.' His "hope' does little for the more than 20 million Americans still unemployed. It does nothing for the nearly 400,000 Americans who gave up looking for work in the month of August.
"Last night President Obama mentioned the word "job' eighteen times. It's time he stopped talking about job growth and started doing something to encourage it. The House has passed more than 30 bills that would create economic certainty for America's small businesses; that would grow our economy and spur job creation. Yet nearly all are stalled in President Obama's Democrat-led do-nothing Senate.
"President Obama has had four years to revive our economy. His policies have not worked. It is time to change course. We must get government out of the way of the private sector and work together to empower America's job creators so that they can hire and grow."
