Rep. Michael G. Grimm (R,C-NY) issued the following statement on today's State Supreme Court ruling that the Port Authority must release its economic impact study on the effect of commercial tolls on the New York Container Terminal (NYCT):
"Today, the court ruled on behalf of the tollpayers and taxpayers of Staten Island -- putting an end to the PA's days of stall tactics and delays. I applaud Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis for her leadership on this effort and I'm proud to call her a colleague. We both have repeatedly called for the release of the study's results, yet the PA refused time and time again. It is unfortunate that our request had to reach the level of a court decision, but the people of Staten Island deserve to see the results. This study was partially paid for with taxpayer money, which means it belongs to us.
"We already know that the commercial toll hikes will cost us hundreds of local jobs and drive business out of Staten Island, but we have a right to know the full scope of the impact. I am calling on the PA to move swiftly to meet the Tuesday deadline and ultimately reach a prompt decision on commercial toll relief. The people of Staten Island have had it with the PA's ongoing song and dance over tolls! If we have to wait any longer on an agreement, there may not be any jobs left to save."
