U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) released the following statement today to commemorate Rosh Hashanah--the Jewish New Year--which begins Sunday, September 16th at sundown.

"Rosh Hashanah marks the beginning of the holiest time of year for the Jewish people. On Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish community in Ohio and across the globe will come together to renew the bonds of family and friendship, to reflect on the events of the past year, and to strengthen its commitment to helping those who are less fortunate. Connie and I wish our Jewish friends all the best for a happy and peaceful New Year.

"Especially during the High Holy Days, we pause to reflect upon our nation's friendship with our most important ally in the Middle East--Israel. Just as families in Ohio will hear the call of the shofar and toast to a sweet New Year with apples and honey, so will our friends and allies in Israel. As Israel continues to face growing dangers to its security, our unshakeable bond remains stronger than ever--and I have been proud to work to ensure that Israel can defend itself against these threats."
