Unlike many in Harrisburg, Daylin believes we can't grow Pennsylvania's economy through tax incentives for businesses alone. We must invest additionally in the kinds of things that make Pennsylvania a great place to live, work, and raise a family: our infrastructure, our schools, our natural environment, and family attractions like parks, museums, and zoos.

We can use tax policy to lure good paying, permanent jobs, but we must be smart about when and how, and what sort of jobs we want to create. As an example, Daylin recently introduced a tax credit for video game development costs in order to stimulate this growing tech industry in Pennsylvania. Companies that benefit from the tax credit will bring jobs, generate local revenues and encourage universities to take part in the innovation involved in video game technology. Other states that have adopted similar practices have demonstrated significant returns. According to the Entertainment Software Association's "Video Games in the 21st Century: The 2010 Report, "direct employment from the video and computer gaming industry grew 8.6 percent annually from 2005-09 and currently employs more than 120,000 people in 34 states today. Texas and Louisiana are among the current beneficiaries of such tax credits. With Daylin's support, the passing of the bill will add Pennsylvania to this list.

As mentioned previously however, tax policy alone is not enough. We need to bring companies to Pennsylvania that are looking to provide a great quality of life for themselves and their employees. This means we need better roads, less traffic, a clean environment, safe streets, and the best public schools in the nation. Daylin has been a leader in advocating a comprehensive approach to job creation in Pennsylvania, and has constantly pressured the administration and his colleagues to invest more in making Pennsylvania the kind of state that people will want to come to and live in.
