The Commonwealth should serve those among us who are hurting, who are in true need of help during economic and health-related hardships. However, my time as a prosecutor has opened my eyes to the far reaching abuse of the Commonwealth's support services. Some recipients of the tax payers' hard earned dollars spend them, not on life's necessities, but on the newest cell phones with the best data plans, pricey cable television, broadband internet, designer clothes and accessories and beautiful cars. Would it be nice if we could all enjoy the best comforts of life? Of course it would. But, when your neighbor is carrying the burden, we shouldn't live lavishly at their expense. While I am generally not in favor of increasing regulation, more oversight over social support programs would save the Commonwealth untold sums of resources.
