House Bill 463 from the 2011 session reduced penalties for drug traffickers. The changes to the penal code have removed much of the disincentive to possess or traffic in controlled substances. Crime victims' rights are sometimes limited. Juries aren't informed on all the factors that I believe are important when determining a sentence at trial. Synthetic drugs are either not yet prohibited by law, or the state laboratory system isn't funded and equipped to test for those substances, or both. This is just a handful of issues I would aim to address with my votes and sponsored legislation in the Senate.
