The reason I'm running for state representative is to provide some leadership for Western Kentucky, one, I would like to pass a comprehensive welfare reform bill for Kentucky, we have never done this. I would start with the premise that we as a people have a moral and financial obligation to support the elderly and the disabled. However, I believe those of working age and physically and mentally capable have both a moral and financial obligation to support themselve
* We need to place a five year maximum cap on welfare benefits with the only exceptions being food stamps and subsidized housing.
* We need school-fare and work-fare at government expense someone on welfare has five years to get a degree or learn a skill or trade to make themselves marketable. After five years they are on their own. For those who don't want to go to school they would participate in work-fare working at a non-competing position for both public and private jobs working off their welfare benefits.
* I also support drug testing for welfare beneficiaries.
