U.S. Senator Daniel K. Akaka issued the following statement today:
"Eleven years ago today, our country suffered an unthinkable attack that we are still healing from. As we mark the anniversary of September 11th, we must remember the thousands of Americans who died that day and honor the heroic acts of those who risked their lives to save others. In the aftermath of that tragic day, our country came together in common purpose and resolve. I have been proud to serve our nation as a Senator on September 11 and the years since, just as I was to serve my nation as a young man in the Army after the devastating attacks on Pearl Harbor. We must remember that, while we may have political disagreements, we are unified in our love for this nation and our desire to ensure that such a terrible tragedy never happens again."
