Montana's Congressman, Denny Rehberg, today released the following statement as the U.S. national debt is projected to surpass $16 trillion today for the first time in the country's history. Rehberg has been a vocal advocate for a Balanced Budget Amendment to the United States Constitution, introducing legislation at the beginning of the 112th Congress.
"Our crippling national debt is not the result of too little taxation, but too much government. Since 2007, when the Democrat majority took over in Washington promising fiscal responsibility, our debt has doubled. This debt isn't just abstract anymore. It's undermining the long-term stability of our nation and putting future generations at risk. It is, in a literal sense, generational theft. The only solution is to reduce the size and cost of government, and we need leadership that is willing to act now."
