Dear Friends,

This week, the national debt passed $16 trillion and the jobs report showed unemployment above 8% for the 43rd consecutive month. Even worse, 368,000 Americans left the labor force last month. The workforce participation rate is at a 30 year low. These facts are not unrelated. An entire Presidency dedicated to expanding the power of the bureaucracy in Washington has failed this country. I believe we have to change course or we will leave America a weaker, less prosperous, and less free place than we found it.

The size of government simply must be cut. There is no alternative. The type of tax increases needed to cover the $1 trillion we borrow per year would destroy our economy. If we just keep on spending, as the President has proposed, eventually we will find ourselves in the position of Greece and the other nations of Europe struggling to avoid total societal collapse due to an overwhelming debt crisis. The government must get its fiscal house in order so the economy can grow and the private sector can create the kinds of jobs that will carry America into another century of prosperity and global leadership.

Recently, Democrats have made the claim that "government is the only thing we all belong to." That attitude goes a long way to explaining their actions over the past four years. I believe the government belongs to us, not the other way around.

Stay in touch and God bless,

Patrick Nunnelee
