"On Labor Day, we celebrate the contributions of America's heroes--the working men and women of this country. For decades, workers have been fighting for better pay and good benefits in exchange for a hard day's work. As President John F. Kennedy said, "The history of the United States is in vital respects the history of labor.'
"At a time when millions of Americans continue looking for work, this is an opportunity to redouble our efforts to make sure that every American who wants a job can have one. I recently co-sponsored the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2012, which would enact a long-overdue increase in the minimum wage by $2.55 over the next three years. And by investing in crumbling roads and bridges across the country we could put thousands of Americans back to work.
"We also need to ensure that people who produce the wealth in this country receive their fair share of it. I will continue working to make sure taxes are not raised on the middle class of our country to pay for a tax break for millionaires and billionaires. It's time working Americans use their strength in numbers to take back the American Dream."
