Guthrie: "Employers Need Certainty"

Statement

Date: Sept. 7, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) today issued the following statement on the August unemployment report, which only added 96,000 new jobs:

"This is yet another disappointing jobs report, with a lower than expected number of jobs created. Most concerning is the shrinking workforce, which signals an increase in people giving up the search for work and instead becoming more dependent on the government.

Employers need certainty and this report won't provide that. Small business owners are facing tax hikes in January that would prevent them from hiring new workers and growing their businesses. We need pro-economic growth policies that revitalize our nation's entrepreneurial spirit and create confidence for the workforce."

The August employment report marks the 43rd consecutive month of the national unemployment rate being above eight percent and the smallest workforce in 31 years. The unemployment rate is now 8.1 percent.
