U.S. Senate candidate Martin Heinrich released the following statement after President Obama's speech at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte tonight.
"Tonight, President Obama talked about the values that define the middle class, and discussed the choice Americans face in the November election. This moment defines what kind of people we are and what kind of country we want to build.
"We can invest in things like education and infrastructure, and create good jobs, which are critical to a strong middle class and a growing economy. Or we can provide additional tax cuts to millionaires and pay for it with tax increases on middle-class families and ending Medicare as we know it. Like the President, I believe we need to build America from the middle class out, not from the top down.
"My priorities are New Mexico's priorities -- always keeping our promises to our veterans, making millionaires pay their fair share so we can protect Social Security and Medicare, cutting taxes for the middle class, and making college affordable.
"I am proud to be the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate in New Mexico and to share the ticket with President Obama."
