Issue Position

"Support Our Troops" needs to be more than a bumper sticker slogan. It needs to reflect a commitment to making sure our veterans receive the respect and benefits they have earned through their sacrifice and service.

There has been a great effort on the part of organizations like IAVA to bring the issue of veteran unemployment front and center, and the federal government has stepped forward to help. I think we need to do the same in New York State. We need to encourage companies to hire veterans right here at home.

We also need to be sure that veterans get the kind of health care they need. V.A. facilities like Castle Point need to be protected so our servicemen and servicewomen are not neglected when they need help the most.

As senator, I will continue to respect the service our veterans have made, and can be counted on to lend a hand to make sure their transition back to civilian life is as respectful and proactive as possible.
