Kingston Responds to Attacks in Egypt, Libya

Statement

Following a day of violence that required the American embassy in Cairo to be evacuated and resulted in the death of four Americans, including the Ambassador, in Libya, Congressman Jack Kingston (R-GA) decried the Obama Administration's response.

"First and foremost, we mourn the lives of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to our great nation," said Kingston. "My thoughts and prayers are with their families and colleagues and with all those who put themselves in harm's way for the United States."

"Attacks on Americans should not be tolerated under any circumstance. That our first response to the onslaught of these uprisings was to apologize for their irrational inspiration is unfathomable. We should have led with deploying the Marines to protect American citizens. America must show leadership and resolve when confronting situations like these. We cannot back down in the fight against extremists."

In response to the attacks, Speaker of the House John A. Boehner announced that flags at the United States Capitol will be flown at half staff. In addition, Speaker Boehner will lead the House in a moment of silence.
