Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) released the following statement today condemning the attack that killed four American personnel in Libya, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens and Foreign Service Officer Sean Smith:
"I am deeply saddened by the tragic deaths of our Ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, Foreign Service Information Management Officer Sean Smith, and two other Americans in the horrific attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi. My thoughts and prayers go out to their families during this difficult time.
"I condemn those that committed this deplorable act of violence and support efforts to further ensure our diplomatic personnel in Libya, Egypt and around the world are protected.
These four Americans made the ultimate sacrifice while working to secure a better future for the Libyan people and we all stand together in honor of their service. We owe them, as well as all Americans serving tirelessly around the world on behalf of our country, our deepest gratitude."
