Reacting to news today that America's national debt has reached a record $16 trillion, Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45) issued the following statement:

"Instead of cutting our debt in half as President Obama promised when he ran for office, he's actually increased it by nearly one-third because of reckless spending on big ticket items like his failed stimulus program and Obamacare. Now, he's pushing a tax increase on small businesses that could destroy more than 700,000 American jobs. America's $16 trillion debt is severely hurting our economic recovery and mortgaging the future of our children and grandchildren. It's time the for the President to abandon his tax-and-spend approach and work with Congress on a pro-growth plan instead."
