Today Congressman Dan Lungren (R-CA) was given a briefing and tour of the security enhancements at Folsom Dam. The Folsom Joint Federal Project (JFP) is a joint construction project conducted by the Bureau of Reclamation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to address both dam safety at the Folsom Facility and improve flood protection. It is the first time two federal agencies have come together on a project of this size.
Congressman Lungren released this statement following his tour.
"I am pleased with the work that is being accomplished up to this point and the security improvements that are being made. This joint project has come a long way since its beginning in 2008. For everyone down river of Folsom Dam, flood protection is a very serious concern.
"Until we see this project to conclusion, we remain a more serious flooding threat than New Orleans in 2005 during Hurricane Katrina, as well as recently during Hurricane Isaac's assault. In addition to the natural hazards of being at the convergence of so many rivers during the rainy season, Folsom Dam must be protected from man-made or terroristic threats. The safety of the Sacramento Region is at stake."
