Lungren Statement on Request from former Senator to Re-Open the 9/11 Investigation

Location: Washington, DC

Today in an article in the Huffington Post, former Senator Bob Graham (R-FL), who chaired the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and co-Chair of the Congressional Joint Inquiry into 9/11, and Sharon Premoli, a survivor of the attack on the North Tower of the World Trade Center, are calling for a re-opening of the investigation into the events of 9/11.

Congressman Lungren (R-Gold River, CA) issued the following statement addressing that article and its mention of his bi-partisan bill with Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA).

"Last year, I, along with my Judiciary Colleague Jerry Nadler introduced a bill that would allow the victims of terrorism to hold accountable the state sponsors of terrorism and others who finance these heinous acts. I was pleased to read former Senator Graham and Sharon Premoli's recommendation in today's Huffington Post to pass our JASTA bill immediately.

"JASTAwould allow the victims and their families of the attacks on 9-11 to reinstate their case to achieve justice and make it clear that future victims of terrorism in the United States will have the ability to bring suits in U.S. courts against foreign states and others who finance terrorism.

"It is my hope, on the anniversary of 9/11, that we can renew our efforts to make this bill law and give the victims of this horrible event some recourse."
