Alexander on Remembering Sept. 11: Start Each School Day With "Pledge Plus Three"

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement on the 11th anniversary of September 11th:

"A good way to remember September 11 is an idea I call "Pledge plus Three': Start each school day with the Pledge of Allegiance--as many schools still do--followed by a teacher or student sharing for three minutes "what it means to be an American.' This would help to put back into its rightful place in our schools the teaching of United States history so that our children grow up learning what it means to be an American. The terrorists who attacked us on September 11 were not just lashing out at buildings and people--they were attacking who we are as Americans."
