Dr. Dan Benishek continued his "House calls with Dr. Dan," tour of Northern Michigan today, on which he is traveling throughout Northern Michigan hosting town hall meetings, visiting with veterans and seniors, and touring small businesses and farms. Today, Dr. Dan visited Lake Superior Nursery in Houghton to thank the Houghton Farm Bureau for its endorsement.
""Dr. Benishek could have ignored the farmers of Northern Michigan but instead he engaged the agricultural community, choosing to learn and understand the people and their unique issues," said Matt Kapp, a Farm Bureau Representative. "He could have done this by reading books and researching data, but instead he took the time to visit with farmers, on their farms and that's why we are endorsing him."
During the meet and greet, Dr. Dan meet with numerous farmers and discussed how the government is helping or hindering their industry.
"Agriculture is an instrumental part of Northern Michigan's economy," said Dr. Benishek. "And unfortunately the farmers that I have met with are like small business owners across Northern Michigan who worry about the Federal regulations, the Federal tax code and about the cost of the new healthcare law. Washington is really hurting businesses here in Northern Michigan and we cannot stand for it."
