Gabriela Saucedo Mercer won a decisive victory over her primary opponent Jaime Vasquez in the August 28 primary.
"I would like to thank my family, friends and supporters for all their hard work volunteering their time and talents to make tonight's primary victory possible," said Mercer. "As we begin to focus on the general election in November, we remind ourselves of the work ahead. The people of District 3 have been met with hardship due to job losses, entire business closings, opportunities being driven away due to bureaucracy and political agendas. Southern Arizonans have been misrepresented by my opponent for over a decade. The time to bring back prosperity and brighter days ahead begins now!
"While my opponent is already engaging in "politics as usual', let it be a reminder that such tactics are his way of avoiding the very real concerns you are dealing with on a daily basis. While you looked for work, my opponent advocated for a boycott of this state driving many job opportunities away. While you are looking for ways to build your small business, my opponent is looking for ways to increase the public sector over your private sector businesses. While you budget your money at home and live from paycheck to paycheck, my opponent approves of legislation that increases our debt and strains your wallet.
"There have been many squandered opportunities on the part of my opponent, but you do not have to settle for it anymore. Now, you have a choice for congress. It is my solemn pledge to honor your voice when I am elected as your representative, and you have my word: I will never advocate for a boycott of this state nor will I consider legislation that limits your right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness.
"I see better days ahead for Southern Arizona; I see a day when we are reacquainted with prosperity by limiting the scope of an all-encompassing federal government. Together, you and I can make this region we call our home a thriving, safe and prosperous district!"
