Statement by Congresswoman Terri A. Sewell on Artur Davis' Endorsement of Republican Nominee Mitt Romney

U.S. Rep. Terri A. Sewell issued the following statement on Former Alabama Congressman's endorsement of Romney and his announced plans to address the RNC convention:

"As the representative of the 7th Congressional District of Alabama, I believe that the interests of the great people I represent continue to be best served by President Barack Obama. I supported President Obama in 2008 and I remain convinced now more than ever that he is the best choice to lead this nation and the only hope for greater opportunities and resources for this congressional district. How anyone who has had the great privilege of representing the people of this district could think otherwise is beyond comprehension and politically dishonest. Like me, the majority of folks in this district stand fervently behind President Obama's solid record of progress in turning this economy around by adding private sector jobs for 29 straight months, in protecting our seniors and the middle class, and for making healthcare accessible and affordable for millions of Americans across this country.

I believe that every American has the right to make their own political choices based upon their conscience, values and beliefs. It is this freedom that makes America a strong democracy. Therefore, I am not distracted by any individual's personal choices. My focus and priority remain on serving the great people of the 7th district. The recent political choices of the former Congressman clearly indicate that, at best, he is out of touch, or even worse, he was never connected to the best interests of this district.

With less than 85 days until the election, I will continue to work hard to re-elect President Barack Obama. We cannot afford to jeopardize the future of this great nation with a Romney-Ryan administration that would give trillions in tax breaks to the wealthy and pay for it by raising taxes on the middle class and deeply cutting critical investments like education, energy, infrastructure, veterans' benefits, and Medicare. I know that I have the President's back and the majority of the people of the 7th congressional district do too."
