Delaware is making important progress towards improving our schools through Race To The Top, but much remains to be done if we are to achieve what Delaware should be able to achieve: the best public education system in the United States.
I support an education system that puts our children first, transforms the choices available to them, and gives them an opportunity for a better life. I also am the son, brother, and fiancé of public school teachers, and I know how diligently teachers work -- and how much more they should be compensated.
We must properly reward our best teachers and support our good teachers to become more effective. We also must quickly find answers to two difficult questions: how to hold students accountable for their own progress, and how to hold parents accountable for student development outside the classroom. As state senator, I will strive to bring community stakeholders together so we can overcome the challenges facing our schools and can proudly offer a quality education to every child in our community.
