This week the House voted and passed legislation to make sure families and small businesses across South Central Michigan do not see their taxes go up at the end of the year. H.R. 8, the Job Protection and Recession Prevention Act, blocks scheduled tax increases by extending current income tax rates for one year.
On Thursday, I participated in a House Committee on Oversight & Government Reform hearing on the IRS's enforcement of new rules and taxes related to the president's health care law. I was able to question a representative from the National Taxpayer Advocate with the IRS about the extra burdens-- namely paperwork-- taxpayers will experience to ensure they are compliant with tax law under the president's new health care law.
Earlier in the week I had the privilege of presenting a Dexter Township resident, Michael Favre, with medals for his military service. Favre served in the Army for three years at Fort Benning then in Germany before being deployed to Iraq.
Mr. Favre is a true American hero and it was an honor to meet him and present him with his well-deserved medals.
