Guthrie Meets with Farmers in Coxs Creek, Shepherdsville

During a two-day span, Congressman Guthrie met with area farmers and Kentucky Farm Bureau officials while visiting Coxs Creek and Shepherdsville.

"Farming is a vital component to Kentucky's Second Congressional District and I know how difficult things have been for the industry lately," said Congressman Guthrie. "Record drought has led to smaller yields, in addition to other challenges for Kentucky farmers. I look forward to working with my colleagues in September to address the current farm bill, which is set to expire on September 30th."

Before leaving for the August recess, the House of Representatives passed the Agricultural Disaster Assistance Act of 2012 (H.R. 6233). The bill would provide previously allocated funding for agricultural disasters and reauthorize expired emergency disaster programs for livestock, fish, tree, honey bee and nursery plant producers.

"H.R. 6233 is the first step in providing certainty for our farmers," said Congressman Guthrie following the passage of the bill.

"It was great to visit with some of Kentucky's finest farmers and learn more about their concerns. I understand how hard they work and know how important they are to our nation's economy," added Congressman Guthrie.
