Today, Congressman Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) reiterated his support for the Medicaid Accountability and Care Act, following revelations that 31 percent of doctors won't accept new Medicaid patients. These revelations were uncovered recentlyby Health Affairs.
"This news reminds us that reform for Medicaid is essential. The President's expansion of Medicaid provides the illusion of access without the power of care. This is ensured by the deeply flawed financial structure of the program. Leaving this structure and its failure to reimburse doctors fully for their costs unaddressed will harm those who rely on Medicaid.
"The Medicaid Accountability and Care Act delegates program funding to states based on need. It also incentivizes anti-fraud measures, wellness programs and fiscal responsibility. Passing this legislation will save the program and free up money to fix reimbursement rates. It will help provide quality healthcare for all Americans."
