Rokita: Jobs Numbers Are Latest Chapter in "All-Too-Familiar Story"

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Rep. Todd Rokita (IN-4) today issued the following statement on the release of the Labor Department's jobs numbers for the month of July:

"Today's numbers are the latest chapter in an all-too-familiar story. The unemployment rate actually increased, and it has now been above eight percent for 42 months. That's three-and-a-half years of bad news for Hoosiers and for all Americans who are struggling to find work under the failed economic policies of this administration.

"President Obama wants to continue doing what hasn't worked, and he even wants to raise taxes, which would destroy more than 700,000 more jobs. In contrast, this week my House colleagues and I passed legislation that would stop the tax hike looming at the end of this year and set up a path for comprehensive, pro-growth tax reform next year. That's the clear choice facing the American people," said Rokita.
