Today, Chief Deputy Whip Peter Roskam (R-IL) released the following statement on House passage of H.R. 6169, a bill that lays the groundwork for a fundamental reform of our nation's tax code in 2013:
"Today the House took a meaningful step forward to a bolder, long-term solution for our struggling economy: a fundamental reform of our tax code. Making our tax code flatter, simpler, and fairer will unburden American families from an overly complex and confusing system; allow American businesses to be taxed at a rate that makes them competitive in the global marketplace; and create a foundation for a growth economy that puts people back to work.
"We have an incredible opportunity to achieve this fundamental tax reform because no one on either side of the aisle can defend the status quo. Instead of the blame game and making our broken system even more complex, the House is ready to reform the tax code in 2013 and go after the big solution. Let's fix our tax code and put our economy back on a growth path."
