On Thursday Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney and running mate U.S. Representative Paul Ryan released their comprehensive energy proposal aimed at the goal of American energy independence by 2020. The ambitious plan involves returning authority for energy production back to the states, opening offshore oil production, developing a North American Energy Partnership and promoting private-sector-led energy development. The planned domestic energy development changes are projected to result in the development of more than 3 million jobs nationwide and American energy independence by 2020.
U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis issued the following statement in response to the energy independence plan:
"Finally Americans have the choice of a realistic and worthwhile energy plan. Governor Romney's practical approach is what we've needed for years and what we've been falsely promised. Harnessing the energy potential of this country by allowing states to move forward with production, creating millions of jobs in crippled economies and defending our national security by ending the stronghold of foreign energy is not only necessary but logical. I'm looking forward to setting this plan in motion."
