A recent study revealed that the Waco Veterans' Affairs Regional Office (VARO) has the longest backlogs for processing claims and appeals and some of the lowest accuracy rates in the nation. These issues are of great concern to me. As a result of this study, on Thursday, the McLennan County Veterans Service Officer and I visited the Waco VARO to meet with the new regional director to find out what can be done to alleviate these problems. The new director indicated that he is working on performance improvement programs that should improve the timeliness and quality of service in this VARO. As a result of this meeting I am hopeful that these changes will bring about the change that is needed to better service our veterans. As a member of the House Veterans' Affairs Committee, I assured the director that I would work to help get them the resources and systems to efficiently cut processing times, alleviate claims backlogs, and improve claim accuracy. In addition, we have agreed to meet again in mid-November to track their progress on these matters. Our veterans have done so much for our country; we must work diligently to honor our promises for their sacrifices and make sure that they receive top notch customer care.
