Issue Position: Being the Consumers Voice

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

As I campaign across the state it is surprising to see that many Delawareans have little trust in the Insurance Commissioner's office or know much about what it does. Typically, when there is a problem, many consumers will reach out to the insurance companies themselves before they contact the Insurance Commissioner's office. Yet, this is a statewide office that regulates, licenses and overlooks the entire insurance industry in Delaware. This speaks to the lack of leadership we have had in office over the last decade and is unacceptable.

Our communities will benefit substantially from lowering rates, more competition, and common language in policies but we hear silence from the current Insurance Commissioner. If elected I will work to make sure that Delawareans know that I am on their side.

We will run an aggressive campaign for accountability, listen to the voices of our citizens, then takethose concerns to the table with our insurance companies and demand change.

We will spend the resources of the Commissioners office educating our citizens and gathering public getting feedback on policies and issues that impact their lives. By bringing the focus back to the consumer we can truly create a culture in Delaware that allows for more freedom of choice and one that truly reflects the values of the citizens it is entrusted to serve.
